William Golding and Star Wars

In his unpublished journals, William Golding writes that on Saturday 18th September 1982, he watched Star Wars six times with his grandchildren:

Star Wars is entrancing the grown-ups […] However, by half-past one in the afternoon it has already been on three times.

Four times. Perhaps five times – I’m not sure […]

Six times, which equals about seven hundred minutes – hard to believe but a fact.’

Judy Golding notes that he was particularly fond of the film’s music and the Mos Eisley scene. In 1983, he tried to hire The Empire Strikes Back but the film was not yet released on video. His response to that movie is not recorded.

May the Fourth be with you!
