In The Double Tongue, Anticrates is Arieka’s father. He is a rich man who owns at least a mile of land near Delphi, which will be inherited by Arieka’s older brother, Demetrios. Anticrates is cruel towards Arieka, partly because her ‘unattractiveness’ means he will have to pay a larger dowry. He eagerly accepts Ionides’ offer for Arieka to become a ward of the Foundation.
