Radio 4 Book at Bedtime: William Golding’s The Spire

William Golding’s The Spire is the latest BBC Radio 4 Book at Bedtime read! The Spire is a remarkable historical novel, inspired by the magnificent spire on Salisbury Cathedral. Golding lived and worked in Salisbury for many years, and was fascinated by the achievement of the medieval builders. The book explores obsession and hubris, faith and hope, and madness and violence.

For the Book at Bedtime, The Spire is divided into ten episodes, read by John Heffernan, with additional voices by Lucy Davidson. The first episode is on Monday 21st July at 10.45pm on Radio 4, and available on iPlayer after broadcast.
