Lord of the Flies is number 1 in Collider’s list of thrillers
Lord of the Flies takes the top spot in Collider’s list of 10 Thriller books that everyone should read at least once.
It might be unusual to categorise Lord of the Flies into the thriller genre, but if we consider Collider’s definition of a thriller – ‘the ability to keep readers on the edge of their seats’ – then it certainly fits very nicely! Lord of the Flies is placed at number one because ‘these boys aren’t monsters from the start. That’s what makes it such an effective thriller’. Thinking about the end of the novel, when Ralph is chased by Jack’s tribe as the island burns, it would be hard to think of a sequence more thrilling. Other books chosen for the top ten include Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl and Lee Child’s The Killing Floor.
