Lord of the Flies in the Independent’s 40 books to read before you die

Lord of the Flies is included in the Independent’s list of 40 books to read before you die. Golding’s iconic novel sits amongst classics such as Middlemarch, The Great Gatsby, and Dracula, along with more recent books like Americanah and Wolf Hall.  Ceri Radford writes that in Lord of the Flies ‘never has a broken pair of spectacles seemed so sinister, or civilisation so fragile’.
