To celebrate the 60-year anniversary of the UK release of Peter Brook’s film adaptation of Lord of the Flies, Chiswick In Film Festival will have a special screening and a Q&A with members of the original cast. Simon Surtees, who played Sam in the film, spoke to the Chiswick Calendar about his experience. Surtees was nine when his mother gave him and his twin brother permission to audition and he recalls that she hadn’t read the book, which he felt was probably a good thing due to the savage events of the plot. He said that ‘It could have been quite frightening, but I don’t think we felt it at all.’
For the event, Surtees will be joined virtually by Tom Gaman, who played Simon, and Kent Fletcher, who played Percival. The screening takes place on Sunday 17th November at 8pm and tickets are available now.
